The K1 fiancée visa is a nonimmigrant visa for an American citizen to bring his/her fiancée of foreign nationality to the US for marriage and life thereafter. The K-1 visa is only issued if the American citizen and the foreign fiancée are legally eligible to marry under the laws of the particular state in the US as well as that of the fiancée’s native country. The US national and the foreign fiancée must marry within 90 days of the fiancée entering the US.

The K1 fiancée visa is only eligible for foreign fiancées who wish to enter the country with the primary aim of marrying the US citizen. Following the marriage of the parent in the United States the child/children will require a Form I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status.
